Why I'm Running

Jeff CogenIn 2006 I ran for County Commissioner because I believe that government plays a critical role in our community’s ability to live up to our values of sustainability, compassion and innovation. Government’s role is to help turn these values into policies and practices that improve the way we live our lives each day and plan for future generations. Success in that way cannot come without trust and engagement from the community; and all too often, that connection is not there. Rebuilding that bond requires leaders to engage in a way that earns respect and responding to challenges before us with innovation, integrity and real solutions.

Our board’s charge to care for the smallest yet most populous county in the state is as significant as our challenges have been. The Multnomah County Commission has dealt with unprecedented challenges without rancor and by collaborating when we agree and being respectful when we don’t. While I am proud of the progress made in my time at Multnomah County, we need a path forward that protects our vital services while inspiring people with innovative, cost-effective programs that reflect our values and help us prosper in a time of great need.

I'm working to build a Government that inspires innovation, integrity and results. I think we can get there, but I need your help; and that is why I'm running for reelection. We’ve only started down the path we need to follow, and I ask for your support and continued engagement as we continue.
